District 2 Councilor Mike Alavar III lauded the Grade 1 and Grade 2 pupils of Vitali Central School and Guiwan Elementary School for their positive response during the “i Read 2 Inspire” program last week.

Alavar said that at their very young age, the pupils showed attentiveness to a short story he narrated to them.

The “i Read 2 Inspire” is program of the Department of Education and Local Government Unit in which local officials are tasked to visit the different public schools to tell stories to students in Chabacano.

One of the objectives of the program is to help preserve the Chabacano dialect and the other is for the children to learn how to listen stories and comprehend the messages they carry.

After telling the story, the story teller would ask some questions to the listeners (pupils) to test if they paid attention.

In Vitali and Guiwan, Alavar told two different stories and later asked questions based on the story. He was glad that the pupils were able to answer showing that they listened well to the story.

Alavar said at their young age, the school pupils must learn how to listen stories as part of their growing up.

School teachers and principals of the two public schools where Alavar guested thanked him for his all-out support to the education sector.

Meanwhile, the city councilor also inspired and encouraged the pupils to learn how to read books or any reading materials as they will need it on higher levels of education.

Alavar has been active in helping the education sector even before  he was elected city councilor.

He has been distributing several reading materials and other school supplies to the different schools. – Dan Toribio Jr.
