Zamboanga’s finest continues to exert all efforts to uphold the law in the city and ensure the safety and security of all Zamboanguenos.

Joining Mayor Beng Climaco during the regular press briefing held last Monday at City Hall, Zamboanga City Police Director Sr. Supt. Angelito Casimiro presented the PNP’s accomplishments in line with their fight against crime and lawlessness as well as the enforcement of various laws.

Twelve operations against wanted persons – including a joint law enforcement operation – led to the arrest of twelve persons for various crimes such as kidnapping with serious illegal detention, murder, theft and homicide.

Seventeen suspects were also apprehended in twelve operations against illegal drugs. A total of 57 sachets of suspected shabu, marked money and drug paraphernalia were confiscated. Fifteen of the suspects have been detained while one was confined at the Zamboanga City Medical Center and a minor was turned over to the Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL) facility in Culianan.

In the campaign against illegal firearms, the local police led two separate operations, subsequently arresting two suspects and confiscating one caliber .45 pistol and one improvised 12-gauge shotgun.

One stolen motorcycle was recovered in an operation. The case is still being investigated.

A joint operation involving the Philippine Center for Transnational Crimes, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the Zamboanga City Anti-Vice and Police Station 11 resulted in the rescue of a victim of human trafficking.

The local police was also part of the operation that led to the seizure of approximately 2,500 sacks of smuggled sugar . — Claudine Uniana
