A former Sulu House representative successfully mediated a barangay dispute in the town of Indanan, Sulu where mass evacuation of residents had taken place due to the tense situation.

Former congresswoman Lady Ann Sahidulla initiated an amicable settlement between two warring groups at two sitios of Barangay Manggis in Indanan which resulted in the signing of a peace covenant last June 15.

he signing of the peace covenant was witnessed by Sahidulla and other officials of Sulu.

In a press conference Wednesday, Sahidulla told newsmen that affected residents are from Sitios Kandang Tukay and Makupa.

Three hundred families from Sitio Makupa fled their homes on December 2014 after some armed residents of Sitio Kandang Tukay harassed them by firing guns and M203 grenade launcher.

With no clear reason why the incident happened, some residents sought the intervention of Sahidulla who immediately moved and got a positive response from the Department of Justice for her to mediate the dispute.

Despite the tense situation in the area, Sahidulla managed to talk to both warring parties until the 300 families returned to their homes  and continue their normal day to day life as farmers starting January 29, 2015 then followed by the signing of the peace covenant.

Without mentioning the person behind the harassment, Sahidulla said that the affected residents returned to their livelihood and now working without fear.

Sahidulla said hat she was glad to have successfully settled the dispute even though she is not anymore holding any elective position. — Dan Toribio
