Councilor Vincent Paul “VP” A. Elago’s effort to develop the Eleven islands and turn it into tourist destination has drawn positive remarks from local residents.

One resident said Elago’s initiative and plan will uplift and improve the life of the people in the islands and its vicinities and will generate income for the city government.

A retired police officer who provides security to tourists during active duties, suggested that the city government should construct  a  fortified building in the area with amenities including watch towers, communication facilities, electricity, water, generators so that policemen and military securing the area would have shelters and comfort stations.

“The security forces must be provided with basic needs like  rice, viands, coffee and sugar. The city government should also construct a finger wharf with flexible watercraft designed for search and rescue.

Another observer suggested that the government should educate the people in  the forefront area of tourism like drivers.

“Drivers should be clean, ,courteous and respectful to tourists and visitors just like what they do in Davao City and Gen. Santos City. Bad drivers should be punished and put to jail for taking advantage of tourists and visitors.

Another resident revealed that resorts in Samal island in Davao have their security forces who work in coordination with the police.

Moreover, a businessman said that once a marshall plan will be put-up in the Eleven islands, investors will come. — Allen Abastillas
