Eight persons were arrested in a police raid in Sangali at dawn yesterday.

A police report disclosed that men of the Sangali Police Station led by Sr. Insp. Joel Tuttuh and operatives of the City Police Office’s Special Investigation Unit led by Supt. Felix Martinez backed up  by a team from the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company’s Special Weapon and Tactics served a search warrant on Arjay Garingan and companions in Sangali around 12:20 a.m.

The warrant was issued by Judge Gregorio Dela Peña for violation of Republic Act 9165, Republic act 10591 and Republic Act 9516.

Arrested during the raid were Garingan, the target of the operation, his companions Argie Gadjalli y Garingan, 27, Mehdie Totoh y Tabi, 23, Sarab Jamaluddin y Cortez, 23, Nazer Ismael y Apolinario, 35, Junny Gecosala y Miro, 20, Ramil Manalo y Palagas, 23, and Amie Jamlian y Samson, 25, all residents of Brgy Sangali.

Lawmen recovered at Garingan’s hideout eight large plastic sachets containing crystaline substance believed to be shabu, drug paraphernalia, two 38 caliber revolvers SN 36891 and SN 124875, one improvised 5.56 revolver, one 12-gauge shotgun SN 1036013, one KG9 SN 759521, two magazines of KG9, P6,350 cash in different denominations, eight cell phones, several rounds of ammunition of different kinds of firearms and a fragmentation grenade.

It was gathered that Garingan’s group  was involved in the distribution of large volumes of shabu in the area.

Garingan and the rest were detained at the police station while the seized items were forwarded to the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory for examinations. – Dan Toribio Jr.
