2 NPA bomb carriers nabbed, 9 rifles seized PDF Print E-mail

Soldiers from the army’s 66th Infantry Battalion, 10th Infantry Division, and men of the New Bataan Municipal Police Station, Compostela Valley arrested on Tuesday  two bomb carriers of the communist New People’s Army (NPA).

Army spokesperson Capt. Alberto Caber identified those arrested as Edwin Sarvida and Dodong Langoy alias Dexter, They nabbed in an entrapment operation with two unexploded improvised explosive devices (IED)s weighing 5 kilos at Campo Uno, Brgy. Andap, New Bataan at 2:00 p.m.    Caber said the operation was carried out based on reports from a civilian about the duo’s role in the NPA.

Police have readied charges of illegal possession of explosives against Sarvida and Langoy.

Since January, 47) NPA rebels have been arrested by joint AFP-PNP elements in Eastern Mindanao while 58 unexploded IEDs were recovered by security forces under Eastern Mindanao Command.

On April 1, 2015, a civilian was killed while seven others were injured in an IED explosion along the road of Brgy. Mahayag, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur.

On April 20, 2015, two innocent civilians were wounded as a result of an IED attack perpetrated by by NPA guerrillas along the national highway in Sitio Bagong Silang, Brgy San Vicente, Makilala, North Cotabato.

The continuous manufacture and use of these IEDs are gross violations of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.

Still in Compostela Valley, nine high powered firearms of the “extortion unit” of the CPP/NPA Southern Mindanao were recovered by soldiers of the army’s 66th Infantry Battalion (66IB) after an encounter in Brgy. Andap, New Bataan last Tuesday.

Reovered were six M16, one M4, one AK-47; and one M14 rifles.

Two soldiers were wounded after hour-long firefight with the rebels

On June 28, 2015, Leoncio Pitao alias Parago, a top CPP/NPA leader in Southern Mindanao who organized the extortion unit in Davao region was killed in an encounter with the government troops in Paquibato, Davao City.

Civilians reported that there are at least 9 NPAs critically wounded after the firefight but they were carried by their fleeing companions

66IB Commander Lt. Col. Gulbert Roy Ruiz said that they are already receiving reports from the civilians about the presence of CPP/NPA extortion group in the area.

“The people are already fed up with the bandits’ extortion activities. This is another big blow to the CPP/NPA”, Lt. Col. Ruiz said.

As of July 7, there are already 105 CPP/NPA firearms recovered by military troops under Eastern Mindanao Command

Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad congratulated Lt. Col. Gulbert Roy Ruiz, for a job well done. He directed Ruiz to also search for wounded NPA members in the area.    “We are also concerned about the wounded NPA members, we have a brand-new ambulance here at EASTMINCOM that can help them reach the hospital for their immediate treatment”, Lt. Gen. Baladad said.

Baladad also commended the civilian who provided timely information to the soldiers of 66th IB and local PNP on the NPA bomb carriers.

“We operate together, through these joint operations, nothing is impossible,” Baladad said.
