A 24-year-old man was accidentally shot and wounded by a policeman during an operation against illegal quarrying  at Uwak River in Culianan last Thursday.

Randy Mendoza Falcasantos, 24, of Sitio Uwak, Culianan was rushed to the hospital after he was accidentally shot around 12:30 p.m.

A police report disclosed that Sr. Insp. Insp. Elmer Solon. chief of the Culianan Police Station had received a report that an illegal quarrying was in progress along Uwak River.

Acting on the report, Solon sent his men to the area where they caught some unidentified persons gathering sand and gravel.

Sensing the arrival of the police, the men thereat scampered in different directions that prompted the lawmen to chase them, during which the firearm of PO2 Owen Mana-Ay Marquez, one of the policemen, accidentally went off hitting Falcasantos in the body.

Immediately, policemen rushed Falcasantos to the hospital for treatment.

Police recovered shovels used by Falcasantos and his companions in the illegal quarrying.
