As an incentive for their noteworthy accomplishments from February to June this year, Mayor Beng Climaco on Tuesday rewarded law enforcement units as part of the city’s firm commitment and support to the security sector.

Most significant in the list of accomplishments were the recovery of improvised explosive device (IED) paraphernalia in Muti by the Curuan Police Station along with operatives from the Explosives Ordnance Division and the Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB); the successful handling of the hostage-taking incident in Ayala, the arrest of people involved in illegal drugs activities and other anti-crime efforts.

Recipients of the rewards were Police Stations 1 to 11, Public Safety Company, RPSB, EOD, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.

Mayor Climaco said the reward system is intended to boost the morale of law enforcers and to encourage all other units to exert more efforts in their anti-crime campaign.

“We thank you so much for all your efforts and for keeping Zamboanga City safe. The City Government will continue to support you in all your undertakings,” the mayor said during distribution rites held at the City Hall conference room Tuesday noon.

Yearly, the City Government allocates funds for rewards and other incentives on matters related to security.

The amount of reward depends on the degree or level of accomplishments of each unit.  The checks distributed ranged from P5,000 to P20,000.

Last March, the mayor also distributed rewards to 7 police stations for their remarkable accomplishments in anti-drugs and other anti-crime efforts from January 2014 to the end of January 2015.

The reward is intended for the concerned police station’s maintenance and other operating expenses.  (Sheila Covarrubias)
