Police seize 90 sacks of smuggled sugar PDF Print E-mail

Men of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company and Ayala Police Station intercepted a truck carrying suspected smuggled sugar in Recodo at dawn last Monday.

A police report disclosed that a Bongo truck with plate number JDM 258 driven by Ronald Ludibise, married, of Labuan was intercepted around 2:30 a.m.

Police said that upon inspection, 90 sacks of sugar were spotted aboard the vehicle. The driver could not produce any document legalizing its transport.

The truck as well as the sacks of sugar were brought to the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company and were later turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.

Meanwhile, around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday Bienvenido Abaro y Arevalo, a Forest Guard of Ecozone and resident of Labuan, this city,  turned over an Izusu Elf truck loaded with 55 Gmelina flitches  of assorted sizes.

The said truck was intercepted around 10:00 a.m. while passing negotiating the San Ramon highway near the Zamboanga Ecozone and Freeport. It was driven by the owner, Gil Tio of Brgy Talisayan, this city, while transporting the wood cargo without pertinent papers.

The truck as well as the Gmelina flitches were turned over to the Ayala Police Station for proper disposition.—Dan Toribio Jr.
