The family of a slain village chief and his brother accused a town mayor as allegedly behind the shooting incident a month ago in Jolo, Sulu where two were killed and four others injured

Usman Mohammad, father of slain Ibnowalid Bassal, barangay chair of Alu Bus-Bus, and his brother Adjid Bassal, is appealing for justice.

In an interview, Mohammad, 76, cried out, saying, “We want justice for the death of my children. Why my sons were killed? The culprits must be brought to justice.”

In his affidavit of complaint filed before Assistant Regional Prosecutor Ivy Damayo-Elvina last July 9, 2015, Mohammad stated that his children were allegedly ambushed and killed by Lugus town mayor Al-Zhudurie Asmadun together with four security escorts.

The complainant named SPO1 Arraji Dammang of the Philippine National Police, Pfc.Abduhasim Kalayakan of the Philippine Army and two “blue guards” Andamih Manan and Edzmar Nandi as the mayor’s escorts.

According to Mohammad, he and his family have been hiding since the ambush took place as they fears for their lives as the suspects are hell-bent on making their lives a misery and wiping out all of them.

“We ask the concerned authorities to put us under the government’s Witness Protection Program because we have already filed our complaints before the Ombudsman,” he said.

Mohammad’s another son, Alshimar Mohammad Bassal, who was unhurt during the incident, is one the witnesses who claimed they saw Mayor Asmadun and his identified escorts in the scene during the incident.

“What is happening now is very unfair because it is the mayor who is given the security, not us. We should be given the security because we are the victims,” Mohammad said in Tausug dialect.

“We ask the authorities especially the Western Mindanao Command and the Philippine National Police to do their job and to give us protection. We’re the victims of this senseless crime,” Mohammad said.

In a joint affidavit of complaint filed wth the Asst. Regional Prosecutor Office in Zamboanga City, Alshimar Bassal, Tutuh Abah and Fernandez Arasi accused the Lugus town mayor and his three escorts as allegedly behind the shooting.

The complainants said that two “blue guards” of Mayor Asmadun opened fire and sprayed bullets on them hitting Alu Bus-Bus punong barangay Bassal, his brother Adjid and Latif Abduladjid.

A spot report of the Sulu Police Provincial Office showed that on or about 4:15 p.m,. of June 23, 2015, a shooting incident transpired at the vicinity of Port Area, Barangay Walled City, Jolo, Sulu.

Adjid was killed on the spot while his brother Ibnowalid died upon arrival at the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO). Their brother, Arsimar Bassal Mohammad, escaped unharmed during the incident.

Latip Sali Abdulajid, Tutuh Abah and Fernandez Arasi, all of Barangay Alu Busbus in Lugus town were injured.

Police initial investigation said the victims were walking along the street when the suspects appeared and without provocation shot them and fled to unknown direction after the incident.
