The deputy commander of the 10th Regional Community Defense Group (10th RCDG), Army Reserve Command, Philippine Army, Col. Edwin Respecio was wounded in a liquidation attempt by unidentified gunmen at 8:00 a. m. on Thursday.

The shooting occurred while Respecio was on his his way to Hqs 10th RCDG in Camp Evangelista, Cagayan de Oro City on board a Suzuki Celerio.

According to civilians in the vicinity of the crime scene, the perpetrators who were riding in tandem immediately escaped.

The colonel suffered a gunshot wound on his left cheek with the bulletexiting on the right. Respecio was later declared in stable condition at a medical facility in the city.

Cagayan de Oro policemen and soldiers from Hqs 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army were on pursuit operations against the assailants.

Meanwhile, an unarmed soldier of 12th Scout Ranger Company, 4th Scout Ranger Battalion was shot to death by gunmen near the San Antonio Elementary School, Brgy. San Antonio, Mabini, Compostela Valley Province at 12:30 p.m., on Thursday.

Initial investigation disclosed that the soldier was about  to return  home in Brgy. San Antonio of the same town after bringing his son to  the San Antonio elementary school when he was shot.

Bystanders reported that the perpetrators immediately escape using two Honda XRM motorcycles without plate numbers.

Personnel from the army’s 71st Infantry Battalion and Mabini Police Station wre on hot pursuit operations against the killers.

Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad ordered military unit commanders in the region to be vigilant at all times.
