Four soldiers and a CAFGU volunteer of the army’s 101st Division Reconnaisance Company (101 DRC), 10th Infantry Division, were wounded after they were fired upon by New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Onor, Brgy Tagugpo, Pantukan, Compostela Valley Province at 10:15 a.m., Friday.

The wounded personnel were immediately provided first aid care by troops in the area. They were declared in stable condition.

Military spokesperson Capt. Alberto Caber said pursuit operations were still ongoing as of press time.

Caber quoted civilians to have reported that there were wounded NPA rebels after the 30-minute firefight.

The soldiers of 101st DRC were providing security patrol in the area in coordination with the local officials who are angry at the NPAs’ extortion and harassment activities in their village.

Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Aurelio B. Baladad earlier reminded all military unit commanders in the region to intensify the conduct of security operations in order to protect the civilians in the far flung areas from NPA’s harassment and extortion activities.

He also encourages wounded NPA members to come out for their medical treatment.

“Our units are ready to help and we have ambulances that could provide them transportation to a medical facility,” Lt. Gen. Baladad said
