Men of the Culianan Police Station under Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon intercepted a truck transporting smuggle cigarettes over the weekend, a police report said.

Policemen led by Insp. Rodolfo Gonzales were manning a checkpoint along the highway in Culianan  when they intercepted a Hyundai passenger van driven by Muhammad Ayyub, 37, of Tinambakan, Lamitan, Basilan and owned by Sana Usman of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay and carrying several boxes of Fort cigarettes believed to be smuggled.

Police said that the vehicle was on its way to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay when it was stopped.

During interrogation,  the driver of the vehicle failed to present papers legalizing the transport of the cigarettes that prompted the police to hold the vehicle as well its suspected contraband cargo.

The seized cigarettes were brought to the Culianan Police Station for proper inventory while coordination with the Bureau of Customs were made for the possible filing of charges in court.

Meanwhile, Rodel Atilano, 45, was stabbed to death by an unidentified assailant at Guevarra compound in Pasobolong last Saturday night.
