The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) celebrated its 111th University Foundation Anniversary yesterday with a simple program held at the Dr. Juanito Bruno Gymnasium.

During the celebration program, WMSU President Milabel E. Ho honored some school alumni like Judge Eric Ilumba of Regional Trial Court Branch 13 a Political Science graduate of WMSY, Director Brenda Nazareth of the Department  of Science and Technology,  graduate of Science and Mathematics, Atty. Juan Climaco Elago, Sister Anne Dominique Ramos of the Pauline Sisters  former Ms. WMSU, Dr. Sonia Sicat, Chief Supt. Ramon M. Ochotorena of PRO-9, Prof. Norma Conti,  Jimmy Villaflores, a  Masscom graduate and  Golden Dove Awardee Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster sa Pilipinas, Dr. Erdulfo Fernando, Ms. Pilar Yap,  owner Fotospeed,  Mrs. Emerita Escudero, Dr. Belinda Belisario and Dr. Marlene Tillah.

District 1 Rep. Celso L. Lobregat commended Dr. Ho for WMSU’s many achievements under her leadership.

WMSU has more development  and is moving forward with its graduates working globally and giving honors to the university.

Lobregat thanked Ho for bestowing him an Honoris Causa which makes him a WMSU alumnus.

The congressman entertained the crowd with songs he sang together with a WMSU coed.

In a video presentation, Mayor Isabelle Climaco- Salazar apologized  for not able to attend the celebration. “Ta supporta yo con el WMSU na de-ila world class quality education for the future.

Councilor Kim Elago said also in a video presentation that WMSU is a history, recalled that it was used by the Japanese Imperial army as a hospital during World War.

WMSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena said that WMSU started as Philippine Normal  College in 1904 and became a university in year 1978.

“To God be the glory for WMSU,” said Dr. Ho in her message.

A College of Law graduate told this reporter that the College of Law has been producing many lawyers and is ranked No. 9 ( Nine ) in the country as a law school. It has also a Bar Review Center for law graduates who want to take the Bar examinations.  The bar review center will facilitate the documents of the bar reviewee papers to the Supreme Court before taking the Bar.

Unknown to many, WMSU produced a Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command,  Retired FOIC Admiral Alexander Pama, Philippine Military Academy Class 1978. He is a graduate of the Philippine Zamboanga Normal College. He hails from Barangay Sta. Catalina. — Allen Abastillas
