Officials of Barangay Salaan  have urged the city government and the Department of Environment and Natural  Resources-9 to check thoroughly the Sanitary Landfill in that barangay and put up a solid concrete wall so that there will be no leaking of dirty water from the garbage zone that may end up into rivers or creeks.

The Salaan officials were present during yesterday’s City Council session and  dialogue with City Engineer’s Office under Engr. Luis Despalo and the contractor of the Sanitary Landfill.

Salaan Kagawad Rogelio Francisco told this  reporter that the garbage must have a  concrete drainage separated  from the river so that it will pollute not the water and the river’s environment.

Francisco expressed apprehension that once heavy rains will pour into the garbage site and the water will flow directly into the river, it will kill the animals and other living things or make them sick.

The river of Salaan connects to the Boalan river, Pasobolong river, Mercedes river to Lumbayao in Barangay Zambowood.

“El masusyo agua na basurahan hende debe guinda na rio kay delicao man pollute na rio de cuatro  barangay y apekta el salud del maga hente  y animal,” Francisco said in Chavacano.

He added that the deep well near the Sanitary Landfill is no longer potable because it is now dirty and dark because of the dirt from the garbage. — Allen Abastillas
