Mayor Beng Climaco has ordered authorities to conduct a thorough investigation of the blast that hit a massage parlor at San Jose, and left one dead and 10 persons wounded Thursday night, July 23.

Immediately after the explosion, Climaco, who was in Manila that time, directed City Caretaker Vice  Mayor Cesar Iturralde and local government agencies to ensure the treatment of the blast victims at the Manly Massage Parlor KTV Bar. She further tasked Iturralde and security forces to conduct a “thorough investigation, identify and eventually, nab the culprits”.

Iturralde rushed to the scene upon learning of the incident to help facilitate and coordinate response efforts. He immediately called on the residents to remain calm but vigilant and to help authorities by reporting the presence of suspicious persons, bags or items in their vicinity.

Killed was Geraldine Miguel, a mother of five from Barangay Tolosa. Those wounded were identified as Nilo Gonzales of Pagadian City, Marina Anamog of Canelar, Elizabeth Alarcon of Ayala, Alfredo Erojo of Mampang, Stephanie Marpel of Pagadian City, Cheska Mendoza of Tumaga, Teresita de los Santos of Lunzuran, Karen Alvarez of Canelar, Nestor Alaban of Putik and Nora Amancion of  Canelar.

Majority of the victims were workers and clients of the massage parlor. Climaco mobilized local offices to immediately respond and provide the necessary assistance to all victims, including the clean-up of the area.

“The public is requested to help shed light on the incident and is advised to keep calm, as authorities are on top of the situation,” advised Climaco as she urged a return to normalcy to maintain continued operations of the City. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
