Mayor Beng Climaco reiterated her call for Zamboanguenos to constantly remain wary in the wake of continuous threats from lawless elements citing the urgent need for all sectors to coordinate efforts in the fight against all forms of lawlessness.

This, following the Thursday night explosion at a massage parlor along San Jose Road that killed one person and wounded 10 others. Police authorities suspect links with the Abu Sayyaf as part of its retaliatory tactics due to the ongoing operations in Basilan and the nearby provinces.

Mayor Climaco said people should always be on guard for suspicious activities and presence of suspicious-looking persons as well as unattended vehicles, bags and other items in their area. These things, she said should be reported immediately so that police and military authorities can make verification the soonest possible time.

It is only through the support and cooperation of all sectors can the city be peaceful and tranquil, the chief executive emphasized.

While our authorities are doubling efforts to safeguard the city and the residents, we in the civilian sector have a responsibility to contribute to peace-keeping efforts,” the mayor said. “All of us have the responsibility to do our share in peace-keeping. Let us report to concerned authorities anything and everything that is suspicious happening in our community.”

The City Government remains firm in its commitment to support the police and military in all its endeavors as security along with Health and Education are the current administration’s thrusts and priorities. -Sheila Covarrubias
