Mayor Beng Climaco on Thursday encouraged senior citizens to utilize and exercise fully their rights to enjoy privileges and benefits, and contribute towards the betterment of their communities.

Speaking in the mid-year consultative conference for senior citizens, Climaco said senior citizens should embrace challenges and not put a limitation on what they can do for their families and their communities.

“Our senior citizens are willing and able to help the community,” said Climaco as she encouraged participants to know their rights, and the privileges and benefits that are due them, as mandated by  law.

She also enjoined senior citizens to remain active and productive by exercising their rights to suffrage.

The chief executive likewise tasked the field offices of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to ensure that all senior citizens have access to their needs via their senior citizen cards and booklets.

For the part of the local government, Climaco assured the participants of her administration’s commitment to comply with and implement the benefits and privileges mandated by law to be provided for senior citizens.

The mid-year consultative conference was held to assess the federation’s accomplishments during the first six months of the year and to address issues and concerns affecting the sector.

Joining Mayor Climaco were City Councilor Jawo Jimenez, City Social Welfare and Development Officer Sokee Rojas, local officials, and CSWDO field officers. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
