The Regional Police Office-9 Monday morning recognized Mayor Beng Climaco as Outstanding Local Chief Executive of the Year in Police Community Relations (PCR) for her exemplary contributions to the improvement of police-community relations in the City.

Several other officials in the region including the Zamboanga City Police Office under PSSupt. Angelito Casimiro and a number of other individuals were also given recognition by the PRO-9 in line with its 20th PCR month celebration with the theme “Matibay na Ugnayan ng Mamamayan at Pulisya: Simbolo ng Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran ng Sambayanan.”

PRO-9 Director PCSupt. Edgar Basbas together with Office of Civil Defense Regional Director Emilia Vasquez-Julhajan handed the award to Mayor Climaco during rites held at Camp Col. Romeo Abendan in Mercedes early Monday morning.

“We thank the PNP-Regional Office-0 for giving us this award. This is all for the glory of God and dedicated to the people of Zamboanga City,” the mayor said.

With security as her priority thrust, Mayor Climaco has partnered with the police in the fight against all forms of lawlessness through increasing allocation for infrastructures, communication and transportation facilities, fuel including allowances for police personnel. She also engages with all sectors to appeal for support to the peace keeping efforts.

The chief executive believes that police community relations help address security challenges and a long term benefit to the people and the city. “The government and the police cannot do it alone, security is everybody’s responsibility.” — Sheila Covarrubias
