Police Deputy Regional Director for Administration Mario B. Yanga was promoted to chief superintendent last Wednesday together with 14 other police officers in simple rites at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Yanga, a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy class ’83, took his oath as a one-star general before Police Director General Raul M. Bacalzo.

Yanga’s promotion lines him up for a post as regional director, but there is no word yet from Camp Crame of a reorganization until such time was Bacalzo retires from active duty in September, this year.

Yanga was city director of the Zamboanga police office for many years, having served there on different occasions twice before his promotion to the regional office directorial staff.

Meanwhile, it was learned that Zamboanga City has been allocated almost 100 new police positions, bringing to more than 1,400 the number of policemen in the city. But because of its population and vast area of coverage, the number is said to be insufficient, a ranking police officer said. – Bob Jaldon
