Jail guards of the Zamboanga City Jail held the wife of a detained Abu Sayyaf member after she tried to sneak a kitchen knife into the jail yesterday.

Nur-Ain Abundol Salam was nabbed and brought to the Central Police Station for investigation.

A police report disclosed that Salam arrived at City Jail before noon with a box of mangosteen.

However during inspection, jail guards found a six-inch long kitchen knife concealed inside the box, prompting  them to hold Salam for questioning.

Police Salam was to visit her husband Jamil Ajilul a member of the Abu Sayyaf  detained at the jail for several years now.

Investgators were trying to determine what Ajilul was planning inside the jail.

Last January, a woman’s attempt to smuggle into the city jail thrree 45 cal. pistols was foiled by alert jailguards.

The three pistols were concealed on two cooking stoves intended for Abu Sayyaf detainees.

A case of illegal possesion of firearms has been filed by the 9th  Criminal Investigation  and Detection  Group against a woman.

City Jail Warden Julius Arro said there are 57 suspected Abu Sayyaf detainees with sub leaders Jamil Ajijul and Termije Ahmad in the jail.

Arro said the three handguns were intended to be used by the Abu Sayyaf suspects in shooting jail guards in their escape plot with the aid of other Abu Sayyaf members outside who will whisk them to RT Lim Boulevard where a seacraft would take them to either Basilan or Sulu.– Dan Toribio Jr.
