Mayor Beng Climaco in a radio interview Wednesday expressed her aspiration to seek reelection in the 2016 polls, stressing that the more than two years under her first term was not enough to accomplish what she has set out to do for the city.

“As mayor of Zamboanga City for more than two years, chene yo deceo para continua sirvi con el ciudad como alcalde,” Climaco declared in an interview over RMN Wednesday morning. “We have to continue doing what is best for the city and the people,” she added.

This, amid talks circulating around town that Congressman Celso Lobregat of District 1 will also run for mayor in next year’s elections but has not firmed up his mayoralty bid yet, pending the outcome of his consultations with the people.

Climaco, who joined Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and Pres. Aquino in what was termed as “gathering of best friends” in Manila Tuesday, said she will organize party movements and realignments as soon as she receives the necessary documents from the Liberal Party.

She said the “gathering of best friends” with Sec. Roxas and PNoy was purely a presentation of Sec. Roxas aspiration to run for president in 2016, and nothing was discussed about political alignments in the local level.

Nonetheless, Climaco said she took the opportunity to talk to Sec. Roxas on issues involving the city of Zamboanga.

“I asked him if he can include in his agenda something for the good of Zamboanga, foremost of which is the proposed transfer of the present airport to another area, and other projects,” she said.— Vic Larato
