At least one road concreting project worth P220 million (Kapai-Taguloan) is up in Lanao del Sur this year when regional officials and local government units on Friday entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Public Works and Highways in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman and DPWH-ARMM Secretary Don Mustapha A. Loong led the signing of the MOA together with its counterpart LGUs in Lanao del Sur led by Governor Mamintal A. Adiong Jr. and local officials held in Kapai, Lanao del Sur.

The road project aims to shorten travel time from Marawi City to Cagayan de Oro by less than two hours and will benefit thousands of residents who can use the road for their farm outputs not to mention tourism that is thriving in the area because of Lake Lanao potential.

Gov. Adiong said this is like a miracle sent to the people in Lanao, because years before they were only allocated P30 million for infrastructure per year.

DPWH-ARMM Secretary Don Loong revealed that for Lanao province about P1.4B funds for infrastructure hve been allocated for the province this year.

Loong said that Gov. Hataman is committed to uplift the lives of residents in Lanao, in fact every year as long as he is the governor, he will see to it that funds for infra is allocated to Lanao del Sur.

Gov Adiong although grateful for what the regional government is helping but still hopeful that the more than 50 kilometers of  road would be paved and the their dreams will be realized.

Adiong said that the national government started to finish at least four kilometers (Phase 1) implemented through Region 10, then with this fund allocation from ARMM another 11 kilometers will be added to it, a deficit of more than 30 kilometers still.

Lanao del Sur 1st Engineering District head Luz Sani said that farmers and merchants use this road for almost a day to reach destination.

“This is one of the worst roads to travel in the country” she said, “and this is where the area of logging concessions exist”.

Residents said from here to Tagoloan, travelers can either turn left in Talakag, Bukidnon to Cagayan de Oro City, or turn right to other parts of Bukidnon to Wao.
