Two detainees of the Sangali Police Station were captured at dawn yesterday, 24 hours after they bolted the station’s detention cell.

A police report disclosed that Louie Evangelista, 29, married, of Bolong had surrendered to the police and revealed the whereabouts of Argie Gadjali of Sangali.

Gadjali sustained head injuries after he resisted and tried to run away. He was taken to the Zamboanga City Medical Center for treatment.

Evangelista told the police that he was just forced by Gadjali to join him in the escape.

Evangelista told the police that last Sunday night, Gadjali’s pregnant wife went to the detention cell to bring him food for supper.

DZT gathered that aside from the food, the wife reportedly sneaked into the cell  a .45 caliber pistol and two blades of iron saws which she passed to her husband.

Evangelista said he and Gadjali started cutting one of the square bars around 1 a.m. Monday and finished it in one hour.

He said that Gadjali’s plan was to kill the duty police officer detailed as detention guard and take his M-16 rifle before they would flee.

However Evangelista was able to convince Gadjali to leave the station without killing any policeman.

He said that he and Gadjali left the police station while the duty police officer was sleeping in his post with his M-16 rifle beside him.

Evangelista said that they ran towards the shore of Sangali where a pumpboat with its operator was waiting for them.

However the boat was incapable of carrying passengers as it incurred a hole.

Then Evangelista and Gadjali proceeded to to the house of the former’s relatives in Bunguiao where they hid for few hours. At this point, Evangelista received information from his relatives that he was already the subject of police shoot-to-kill which prompted him to surrender.

Evangelista surrendered to men of  the Sangali Police Station and Police Station 4 based in Culianan. He was also able to disarm Gadjali of  the .45 caliber pistol  which he turned over to the police.

He also told the police where Gadjali was hiding in Bunguiao which led to a follow-up operation in the area.

However when policemen arrived at the place where Gadjali was hiding, he refused to surrender and instead resisted while armed with a hand grenade. But he was overpowered by the lawmen.

The Sangali Police Station have readied charges against the wife of Gadjali while more charges will be filed against Gadjali and Evangelista. – Dan Toribio Jr.
