Security forces are on hot pursuit operations against suspected Abu Sayyaf gunmen who beheaded one of their male kidnapping victims in Barangay Lunggang, Maimbung, Sulu Tuesday night.

Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, identified the victim as Rodolfo E. Buligao. He said that Buligao’s headless remains were discovered by residents at 9:45 p.m.

Based on a note recovered from the body, Buligao was the chairman of Barangay Aliguay Island, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

Two Philippine Coast Guard personnel —  SN1 Rod Pagaling and SN2 Gringo Villaruz —  who were seized with Buligao in Aliguay Island, remain in captivity.

Buligao and the two Coast Guards were snatched by six gunmen around 1:45 a.m. on May 4 in the barangay hall of Aliguay Island in Dapitan City. They were dragged to a motorized pumpboat.

The abductors were clad in military uniforms as they pretended as conducting inspection in the island.

Pagaling and Villaruz were temporarily stationed in Aliguay Island to monitor the arrival and departure of motorized bancas ferrying tourists, since the island is one of the tourist destinations in Dapitan.

After the three were seized, their relatives had received demands from the kidnappers and negotiations took place but no positive results emerged until the beheading of Buligao. – Dan Toribio Jr.
