Congressman Celso L. Lobregat called a meeting Thursday morning of officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional and city district offices to look into on- going projects including next year’s set of projects in the West Coast or District 1.

It was a monitoring and planning meeting, held at the DPWH Zamboanga City District Office in Divisoria, attended by the district office staff headed by District Engineer Cholie Roble, and the agency’s monitoring team.

Discussed at the almost 3-hour meeting was the widening of national roads such as Labuan-Limpapa road, Baliwasan-San Jose Gusu section, with a budget allotment of Php 200 million, including Road Right-of-Way (ROW), the upgrading (gravel to concrete) of the road from the junction National Highway to Ayala-La Paz leading to La Paz resort with an allotment of Php 100 million.

Part of the discussion was the update on the By-Pass Road, District 1 or West Coast section, that stretches 23 kilometers long from Tumaga to Patalon with a budget allotment of Php 150 million for Year 2014 and Php 120 million for Year 2015.

Engr. Roble said that next year, the DPWH has allocated Php 300 million for the concreting of the By-Pass Roadwhich consists of Phase V of the some Php 1.6 billion road network connecting the West and East Coasts.

The DPWH monitoring team also briefed Congressman Lobregat on the progress of the construction work and some concerns on the acquisition of the ROW from affected lot owners as he urged the agency to fast-track the implementation of the projects.

Lobregat also identified projects programmed for Year 2016 in the different West Coast barangaysbased on the priorities listed by the barangay officials concerned during his series of consultations with them.
