Senators Chiz Escudero and Grace Poe are on top of the list of senators with minimum expenses for consultants in the year 2014, based on the report of the Commission on Audit (COA).

According to the report of the commission, Poe spent only P2.2 million for consultancy services, while Escudero was P2.7 million.

This is despite earlier news that some members of the Senate said it is too great to pay costs incurred in the service of consultant with the money of the people.

It will be recalled that the COA will seek an explanation from Senate President Franklin Drilon on why there are senators who spend large amounts to pay consultants.

The commission is surprised that a consultant to the Senate is paid P94,000 monthly salary.

According to COA Supervising Auditor Mario Lipana, one senator he did not identified spent for 60 consultants and no list of names of the consultants or other documents have been submitted to justify their service.

Lipana added, there is also a senator who reached P18 million allegedly spent for the wages of the consultant, and another legislator allocated P15 million for its services consultant last year.

COA also noticed the sudden increase in the consultation services of the Senate which is P231.97 million in 2014 from P147.57 million recorded by the agency in 2013.
