A woman was killed while three family members were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a van and a motorcycle along Lobregat Highway in Cabaluay at noon Friday.

Killed was Junaida Ade y Francisco, while injured were Jodelyn Camins y Francisco, Jaz Owen Camins y Francisco, 3, and Francesca Reign Ade y Francisso, 4, all residents of Sitio Sapa Seco, Lanzones.

Police said that Junaida was driving a Honda Wave 100 motorcycle with the three as backriders heading for the city proper while a passenger van with plate number XNX-640 driven by Rogemer L. Cubol, of Upper Calarian, was moving on the opposite direction when both vehicles collided.

Police said the van swerved and encroached the lane where Junaida’s motorcycle on track resulting in the fatal head-on collision.

The victims were thrown off the motorcycle, and were taken to the hospital, where Junaida expired later.

Police said that the van was running at a very high speed that could have made the driver lose control of the steering wheel.

Cubol surrendered to the police and was detained. Police have readied charges against him for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide, multiple serious physical injury and damage to property.

Cubol was taken yesterday to the City Prosecutor Office for inquest proceeding. – Dan Toribio
