For the second time around, the Barangay Government of Sta. Catalina under the leadership of Chairman Jimmy B. Villaflores, was a recipient of an award for being one of the barangays in Zamboanga City that have contributed a lot in trying to assist the city’s blood bank through bloodletting activities.

The recognition was initiated by the Zamboanga City Blood Council (ZCBC) headed by Mayor Beng Climaco, thru the City Health Office under Dr. Rodel Agbulos in partnership with the Rotary Club of Zamboanga.

The simple ceremony was held at Lantaka Hotel during the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga led by its president Fernando Camba last August 13, 2015.

Of the 36 barangays who participated the program, ZCBC awarded the top 10 communities that successfully collected gallons of blood in their respective bloodletting activities.

Barangay Chairman Villaflores thanked members of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity for being consistent in donating blood in Sta. Catalina.   “I would like to thank the officers and members of the Tau Gamma in the city for their continued support to my administration. I also would like to give credit to other blood donors like some members of the Guardians Brotherhood, youth organization, barangay officials and staff and some concerned residents of the community,” Villaflores  said during the Monday flag raising ceremony at the Barangay Hall.

He said that so many positive things are happening in Sta. Catalina for the first time.

Aside from this recognition, Sta. Catalina was among those barangays having an effective and functional BCPC (Barangay Council for the Protection of Children) office as well as Violence Against Women (VAW) desk.

Villaflores announced that on September 9, 2015, another round of bloodletting program will be carried out in time for the second year commemoration of the September 2013 Siege. (AL)
