Mayor Beng Climaco has reiterated her marching order to the local police force to keep Zamboanga City safe.

This, as the chief executive turned over 50 motorcycles costing more or less P4.7 million to the Zamboanga City Police Office during the flag raising ceremony at City Hall grounds yesterday morning.

“We hope you use these (motorcycles) for the best potentials of the city and keep Zamboanga City safe. That’s an order,” Climaco said as she handed the motorcycle keys to the ZCPO through Chief Supt. Miguel Antonio, regional director of the Police Regional Office 9.

The police will use the motorcycles in their patrol operations and other activities to keep the city and its people safe.

In response, Chief Supt. Antonio thanked Mayor Climaco and the city government of Zamboanga for the motorcycles and all other forms of assistance given to the local police.

“We are really very grateful to the city government of Zamboanga. I believe the city of Zamboanga is the only if not the best local government unit that supports so well the agency that I work for,” said Supt. Antonio, a Zamboangueño general who hails from Basilan.

The newly appointed regional police director cited the P30-million ZCPO building the city government will construct at the back of city hall, and the 11 Hi-Lux patrol cars that Climaco donated to the police on her first day in office on July 1, 2013.

“And we expect more equipment and other assistance from the city,” he added.

Meanwhile, Supt. Antonio took the opportunity to seek the support and cooperation of the people of Zamboanga with the police, now that “I am here at your service.”

He told the city government officials and employees that the main thrust of the Police Regional Office 9 under him is to bring the police to where they are needed.

“Thus, we need your support by reporting (to me) the ‘pasaway’ among the police. Do not hesitate to report to me,” he said as he even announced in public his contact numbers (09177001983) through which anybody can text/call him on matters concerning the police.

Also present during the turnover of the motorcycles were Councilors Rommel Agan, Roel Natividad, Rogelio Valesco Jr., Eddie Saavedra, Pin-Pin Pareja, Luis Biel, Melchor Sadain, Kim Elago and city police director Sr. Supt. Angelito Casimiro together with Supt. Ariel Huesca, commander of the PNP Public Safety Company.— Vic Larato
