The Zamboanga City Council of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines recently participated in the 9th Western Mindanao Regional Jamboree in Tubod, Lanao del Norte from August 19-23, 2015. With 521 registered scout and scouter delegates, this is one for the history books as the biggest contingent sent by the Council to a Jamboree.

The Council ranked 3rd in number of delegates among 11 councils in Western Mindanao, next to Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Council and the host Lanao de Norte.

Despite the Jamboree marred with rains on the last two days, it did not dampened the high spirits of the scouts who readily accepted the challenge of the weather and found time to enjoy, learn skills and even won the Team Building and Signalling competitions during the said event.

Furthermore, four (4) of the ZC scouts passed the Board of Review for Eagle Scouts, they are: Venturer Scout (VS) Rica Michelle V. Aguilar, who graduated high school from the Sangali National High School and now studying at Ateneo de Zamboanga University as a first year student; VS Renz Montealto, also of Sangali National High School; VS Choline Jesse B. Marcial and Aiyan Gabrielle Napigkit of Zamboanga City High School Main. These scouts will receive their Eagle Scout rank, the highest rank in Scouting, through a National Court of Honor to be scheduled within the year.

Incidentally, VS Choline Jesse B, Marcial, the present Senior Scout representative in the ZC Local Council Executive Board, has been selected as one of the two representatives of Western Mindanao Region in the 2015 Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts (TOBS) Competition in Manila sometime October this year. This is the 3rd  consecutive year that a scout from the Zamboanga City Council represented the Region in the TOBS.

The contingent was headed by the OIC and Field Scout Executive Joselito I. Alejabo, assisted by a competent management team headed by its Assistant Contingent Head for Administration Scouter Zandro G. Sepe, Principal of the Talon-Talon National High School and Assistant Contingent Head for Program Scouter Edgardo A. Falcatan, Principal of Boalan Elementary School. On hand to assist the contingent as adviser is the Council Scout Commissioner, Regional Training Commissioner and Schools Division Superintendent Pedro Melchor M. Natividad, who provided guidance and inspiration to all members of the contingent from day 1.

Noteworthy in the success of Council’s participation to the Jamboree is the unconditional support of the all the parents of the scouts, their adult leaders, the City Mayor Ma. Isabelle “Beng” Climaco-Salazar and the security preparations of the WESMINCOM through LTGEN Rustico Guerrero, Task Force Zamboanga Commander Col Adelino Colina, Police Regional Office – 9 PCSUPT Miguel Antonio Jr., City Police Director PSSUPT Angelito Casimiro, the Tungawan Municipality Police Office, PNP EOD and the Public Safety Company headed by PSUPT Ariel Huesca whose units escorted the contingent from Pasonanca to the City Boundary and upon the contingent’s return yesterday to Zamboanga City.
