Former Liga ng mga Barangay President and now Taluksangay barangay chair Abdurahman Nuño pledged his support to District 1 Congressman Celso L. Lobregat in whatever position he would aspire for in the forthcoming 2016 elections.

Nuño made this commitment during the Commemorative Lunch tendered by Lobregat to recall the time — 7 years ago — when Zamboangueños united in defense of Zamboanga, Mindanao, the Constitution, and the Republic.

The event, held at Royce Convention Hall at Grand Astoria Hotel on Saturday, was also attended by District 2 Congresswoman Lilia Nuño, Vice Mayor Cesar Ituralde, Councilors Mike Alavar, BG Guingona, VP Elago, Ismael Musa, and Barangay Chairmen from the city’s first and second districts.

An acknowledged and respected Muslim leader and head of the prominent Nuño clan, the Taluksangay village chief, said as a supporter of the late former Congresswoman and Mayor Ma’am Caling, he will also support her son, Congressman Celso.

Nuño said, “I will support him whether he runs for Councilor, even as Barangay Chairman of Zone 3 (Lobregat’s place of residence), even as Congressman, and even as Mayor. I will support him, no doubt”.

Recall that only last Thursday, Nuño and Lobregat formally announced they are forging an alliance, the Nuños and the Lobregat group, during a press conference held at the Lobregat residence.

In that gathering,Nuño and incumbent Liga Ng Barangay President Jerry Perez, who fought it out in the race for the Liga presidency, embraced each other and vowed to forget the past.Nuño lost to Perez in that election. Congressman Lobregat’s younger brother, Jomar, ran for Congress in District II against Lilia Nuño who eventually won over the later. However, in a show of reconciliation Jomar and Congresswoman Lilia, also embraced each other and “kissed and made up”, so to speak, promising to work together for the good of the city.

Nuño, addressing the barangay chairmen present during the commemorative lunch tendered by Congressman Lobregat on Saturday, reiterated his commitment to support Liga President Perez.

“My relationship with the Lobregats and Jerry, as if it was only yesterday and that was after the differences we had”. Now, I am in full support of Lobregat, Nuño said in chabacano.

The forging of alliance by Lobregat and Nuño put to rest speculations of a possible clash between them in the 2016 elections, and flashed the good news that the once political allies are together again.
