City continues aid to Talon-Talon fire victims PDF Print E-mail

The City Government continues support and assistance to families affected by the Monday (August 17) fire in barangay Talon-talon, the latest of which was the distribution of kitchen utensils and last Thursday.

City Social Welfare and Development Officer Socorro Rojas said each family received pots, frying plans, spoons, forks, plates, plastic cups and hygiene kits during the distribution Thursday in line with the ongoing social welfare assistance to the fire victims.

The city earlier provided food packs that included rice, sardines and noodles and other relief goods that included mats and blankets. The families also underwent tagging conducted by personnel from the Housing and Land and Management Division (HLMD) to help determine how the local government can help them in terms of housing.

Based on validation by the CSWDO, there are a total of 135 families affected with 567 dependents.

Mayor Beng Climaco mobilized resources to respond to the needs of residents affected by the conflagration that hit Talon-talon. She personally led the initial response to the fire call as personnel from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and CSWDO were deployed to provide immediate assistance and relief support.

Aside from the immediate mobilization of resources, Climaco issued a call for help for the affected families. Donations may be coursed through the Talon-talon barangay hall.

Based on reports from the City Fire District, some 100 houses made of light materials were razed to the ground. No injuries were report but damage to properties is estimated to have reached P3M. The fire started 8:15am and was contained after an hour.  — Sheila Covarrubias
