A man and his wife were shot and seriously wounded by holduppers who robbed them of P100,000 in cash in Barangay Namnama, Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay last Thursday morning.

Vicente Cahanap Y Quinanatan, 43, sustained a bullet wound in the head and his wife Marilou Cahanap Y Cabayle, 46, was shot in the chest and arm. Both are residents of Barangay New Calamba, Kalawit, Zamboanga Del Norte.

Initial investigation disclosed that the couple was travelling from Zamboanga Del Norte to Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay on board a Kia Bongo type vehicle running on minimal speed when four men aboard two motorcycles emerged on the same direction. The two motorcycles overtook them and one of the four shot Vicente in the head in barangay Namnama,

Police said that despite the bullet wound in the head, Vicente managed to pull over the vehicle. The gunmen stopped and approached them,  then one of them shot Marilou in the arm and chest before taking their bag containing P100,000.

Police said the holduppers sped towards Zamboanga del Norte with bringing the loot.

The victims were rushed to the Dr. Sibud Country Hospital in Titay.

Recovered at the crime scene were three spent shells of .45 caliber pistol.

Meanwhile, around 6:15 p.m. of the same day, Larry Vendiola Genciane and Jabyee Bartolome Galoso, both residents of Kabasalan, ZamboangaSibugay and collectors of KCCDFI located in Taway, Ipil reported to the Ipil Municipal Police Station that they were robbed by two unidentified men riding in tandem on a black Honda XRM motorcycle and wearing full face helmet some 100 meters away from the Iglesia Ni Cristo Church, Tenan going to Upper Pangi, Ipi.

The victims told the police that at 4:45 p.m. they were riding on their Honda XRM motorcycle going to Ipil and while approaching Taway, another motorcycle blocked their path and two men pointed handguns at them.

The gunmen demanded money saying in this way “pasensya boss kuarta lang”.  Then one of the suspects grabbed the wallet of Genciane from his denim jeans pocket.

The victims told the police that the suspects fled with P14,900, in collection), P500 personal money), driver’s license and two ATM cards of ONB and Metro Bank.   — Dan Toribio Jr.
