Motorcade set to celebrate ‘Dia Fundacion de Chabacano’ PDF Print E-mail

Zamboanga de Antes (ZDA), a Facebook base group of Zamboangueños seeking to preserve the Chabacano dialect, will lead a long motorcade tomorrow, June 23, 2011, in celebration of the declaration of “Dia Fundacion de Chabacano”.

The City Council today is expected to approve in third and final reading Ordinance No. 2011-21 authored by Councilor VP Elago declaring June 23 as “Dia de Fundacion Chabacano.”

Tomorrow’s motorcade will kick off at the Fort Pilar Shrine at 9 a.m., go around the city proper through its major streets, and will wind up at City Hall. Some 100 ZDA members led by its Facebook administrators Ricardo Vasquez, Prof. Norma Camins, Jorge Duquillo and Alfred Wong are expected to participate this significant event.
This event is being fully supported by major sponsor and cultural partner Department of Tourism-9 under Regional Director Maryjune Bugante, herself a ZDA active member.

ZDA has now some 7,000 members worldwide from only about 20 when it was launched last February.
To continue the “Dia Fundacion de Chabacano” celebration, ZDA will have a dinner at the Lantaka Hotel on Saturday, June 25 at 6 p.m.. Prominent personalities have been invited to grace the affair. They are Mayor Celso Lobregat, Vice Mayor Cesar Ituralde, Congresspersons Erbie S. Fabian and Beng Climaco, all members of the City Council, WMSU officials led by president Dr. Grace Rebollos.
