In less than 24 hours after he assumed as new chief of Police Station 6 in Tetuan, Supt. Nonito Asdai led his men in confiscating 170 sacks of smuggled rice at a finger wharf in Arena Blanco last Monday night.

A police report disclosed Asdai and his men were conducting foot patrol around 9:30 p.m. when they spotted a group of persons unloading sacks of rice from a motorized pumpboat.

However while the lawmen were approaching the area, the laborers of the pumpboat jumped into the water and scampered in different directions.

Asdai said that the boat laborers left behind the 170 sacks of rice already unloaded at the finger wharf.

The sacks of rice were taken to the Tetuan Police Station for proper booking and were later turned over to the Bureau of Customs.

Asdai said the seized rice shipment was worth about P170,000.

He added that they were still trying to determine the identities of the persons behind the smuggled rice. – Dan Tori bio Jr.
