Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas expressed optimism yesterday that Mayor Beng Climaco and Congressman Celso Lobregat, who are both his friends, will keep their tandem intact in 2016.

“Umaasa ako na magka-unawaan si Mayor Beng at Cong. Celso. Magkasama silang nanalo (I hope Mayor Beng and Cong Celso will come to terms. They won together) in 2010,  2013 and even years before that,” Roxas said when interview over Brigada Zamboanga.

Roxas, the administration’s anointed standard bearer for 2016, believes there are more things that bring Climaco and Lobregat together than separate them.

“Bilang ama o taga pag-patuloy ng daang matuwid,” he said, “sisikapin ko ang lahat para manatili yung kanilang pag-sasama.”

He said Climaco and Lobregat were together as they had overcome the Zamboanga siege. “Kung nalagpasan nila ang Zamboanga siege by more than 500 armed rebels na nanalakay, pumasok dito at naghasik ng terorismo at gulo, I think they will overcome as well whatever rift they may have kung meron man.”

Roxas advised the mayor and the congressman, who appeared heading for collision in 2016 mayoralty race, not to be swayed by “loose talks” and intrigues from people with vested interest.— Vic Larato
