2 women die, dozen injured in bus crash Print

Two women were killed after a Rural Transit bus went wayward, hitting one of them, then rammed a house before it  fell on a ravine at Km. 12, Mercedes early yesterday morning.

Killed were Amalia Bucoy, a resident of Pasobolong and Raquel Solis y Romina, a bus passenger and a native of Lanao.

More than a dozen were injured and were taken to hospitals for treatment while two houses were damaged in the bush crash.

Culianan Police Station commander Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon said the accident took place around 4:25 a.m. near the entrance of Pasobolong.

A police report disclosed that Bucoy was standing beside her motorcycle along the road when the bus driven by Rogelio Bambao, 50, married of Navalan, Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur hit her.

Due to high speed, Bucoy and her motorcycle were dragged several meters away and the bus rammed two houses owned by Colonia family before in fell on a ravine.

The bus fell on its right side when in landed on a flat ground down the ravine.

The passengers as well as Bambao managed to get out of the bus, while Solis was trapped inside, died on the spot.

Bucoy also instantly after she was hit by the bus.

In an interview, Bambao told newsmen that he fell asleep while driving the bus.

Bambao surrendered to the police and was detained at the Culianan Police Station.

Solon said that Bambao will be charged for reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide, multiple frustrated homicide and damage to property. – Dan Toribio Jr.
