To mark the second year anniversary of the 2013 Zamboanga Siege, Mayor Beng Climaco with Sen. Pia Cayetano officially unveiled a photo gallery chronicling the life journey of Zamboangueños for the past two years since the siege at the City Hall lobby Wednesday, September 9.

One of the activities lined up for the siege’s second  year anniversary, the gallery was officially opened to the public Wednesday, September 9, by a simple ribbon-cutting ceremony at the City Hall lobby led by City Mayor Climaco and Sen. Cayetano along with local officials and humanitarian partners.

Dubbed “Dos Años Despues: A Photo Gallery”, the event is a collaborative effort between the local government and humanitarian partners to show the different faces and facets of Zamboanga following the 2013 siege – the ups and downs and the struggles and triumphs following the siege, the humanitarian crisis that ensued moving to early recovery and ultimately to recovery and rehabilitation.

Aside from the exhibit, the City Government also spearheaded a special day of remembrance tribute at Sta. Catalina, a flag raising ceremony at Sumariki Island, a tribute program highlighting salamat duwaa and interfaith prayer services, a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial marker of Fallen Heroes at Veterans Memorian Park, and the signing of the Interfaith Council Resolution declaring babies born on September 9, 2013 as “children of hope” to mark the second year siege anniversary.

The photo exhibit is open to the public and will run until September 15. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
