Preparations are in full swing as the city government primes for the annual Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, the city’s biggest and grandest celebration in honor of its patron saint, Nuestra Sra. La Virgen del Pilar.

Mayor Beng Climaco has issued Executive Order No. BC 134-2015 organizing the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival Committee that will work on the preparation, planning and budgeting to stage a festive, colorful and unforgettable fiesta celebration for locals as well as domestic and foreign visitors.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer and concurrent officer-in charge of the City Administrator’s Office Dr. Elmeir Apolinario is designated chairperson while Executive Assistant II Christian Olasiman sits as co-chairperson.

In addition to honoring the city’s patron saint, the mayor stated in her executive order that the Hermosa Festival will also endeavor to increase people’s awareness and interest in the rich history and cultural heritage of the city as well as its potentials for the promotion of the local tourism industry.

The fiesta celebration will include familiar Hermosa activities such as the sardines festival, regatta, mascot and various competitions, but festival goers can also expect more fun and amusement from new and exciting events like the bandoreal parade, parade of lights, and many more.

This year’s celebration is themed “Junto y Unido: Celebracion de Harmonia y Buen Amistad.” — Claudine Uniana
