Mayor Beng Climaco led the necrological services honoring and remembering the late Atty. Romulo Plagata, who served as City Administrator under the administration of the late Mayor Vitaliano Agan, at the City Hall lobby Friday morning, September 11.

In her eulogy, Climaco expressed the gratitude of the local government for the life of the late Atty. Plagata who, despite being born and raised in Iloilo, was a Zamboangueño at heart who dedicated his life’s work to the City of Zamboanga.

“He has contributed to who we are today. He considered Zamboanga his home. He is an Ilonggo but he is also a Zamboangueño and he has given the best years of his life to this City,” Climaco said.

The necrological services, sponsored by the City Government in honor of Plagata and his contributions to the City, was attended by Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, members of the City Council and local officials, and the members of the Plagata family.

City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Head and concurrent OIC of the City Administrator’s Office Dr. Elmeir Apolaniario read Executive Order BC 136-2015 which expressed the City’s gratitude and appreciation for the late City Administrator and its deepest sympathy and condolences to the family.

The EO also called for the Philippine flag in front of City Hall to fly at half-mast as a sign of City’s mourning.

Plagata served as City Administrator under the administration of the late Mayor Vitaliano Agan from July 1, 1988 to June 30, 1998. Aside from his post as City Administrator, Plagata also served as Secretary to the Mayor and taught history, political science and law at the then Zamboanga A.E. Colleges.

Plagata was a practicing lawyer since 1962 and formed a flourishing practice with Agan and Florendo Castillo, Sr. He left the practice to join and support Agan during his administration as City Mayor.

Eulogies were delivered by the City Councilor Atty. Rommel Agan, on behalf of the family of the late Mayor Vitaliano Agan, Dr. Elmeir Apolinario, City Legal Officer Judge Jesus Carbon, Jr., and Mayor Beng Climaco. — Jasmine Mohammadsali)
