CEBU CITY — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has identified Cebu as one of the top marijuana suppliers in the country.

PDEA 7 Director Jeffrey Bangsa said thae cultivators were the ones who market the banned plant to the other parts of the country.

Bangsa said marijuana thrives in the mountainous areas of Balamban, Badian and Danao City.

The marijuana plants in Balamban are of higher quality because the place has several water sources, he added.

“The plants in the area are usually bigger than the plants grown in other places,” Bangsa said.

PDEA agents Tuesday morning raided eight plantations in Barangay Basiao, Badian in southern Cebu and uprooted some Php 5.5 million worth of 26,958 fully-grown marijuana stalks and more than 1,000 seedlings.

Bangsa said the operation did not require research because the marijuana plants were seen in plain view.

PDEA agents caught Ryan Dionaldo, one of the four suspected marijuana cultivators in Basiao, Badian.

His other cohorts escaped arrest.

But Dionaldo denied he grows marijuana, saying he was only “habal-habal” or motorcycle-for-hire driver.
