A 42-year-old man was shot and wounded by a policeman in Balan Drive, Don Alfaro, Tetuan last Thursday night.

The suspect was arrested by a police official after the incident.

Supt. Nonito Asdai, Tetuan Police Station chief, said the victim, Pilardo Ong Lozada, sustained bullet wounds in the leg.

The suspect, PO2 Jeffrey Herbano, who is a neighbor of Lozada, was arrested by Supt. Felix Martinez, who is also residing in the same place.

Martinez said that after he heard three gunshots, he rushed to the scene and caught Herbano holding a 9m pistol that was used in shooting Lozada.

Merly, mother of the Lozada, told reporters that his son was having a conversation with Herbano near their house when suddenly she saw the policeman drew a 9mm pistol and shot her son.

Merly said her son was already running away from Herbano when he was shot by the latter.

Herbano was detained at the Tetuan Police Station for the filing of charges

In another incident, a 44-year-old man was shot and wounded in Kapok,  Arena Blanco yesterday morning.

Supt. Nonito Asdai said the victim,Eduardo Enriquez y Bejerano of Faustino Drive, Mampang, sustained bullet wounds in the right lower knee.

Asdai said Bejerano was shot by Zaldy Mohammad, who escaped after the incident.

Initial investigation showed that Enriquez went to Kapok, Arena Blanco where he met Mohammad around 8:30 a.m.

However Mohammad suddenly drew a .45 caliber pistol and shot Enriquez twice.

Police recovered two spent shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene. —  Dan Toribio
