The arrest of a kidnap-for-ransom group leader and his brother is expected to prevent more kidnappings in Zamboanga Sibugay, police said.

Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Public Safety Company commander Supt. William Gadayan said the group of Reme Sabtal alias Commander Agila and Mr. Suave and his brother Ronnie Sabtal has been tagged as behind the series of kidnappings in the province.

Gadayan said Sabtal’s group had been planning to abduct a prominent personality in nearby Labason, Zamboanga del Norte.

Sabtal’s gang was notorious in the province as they have been involved in a series of kidnappings.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Miguel Antonio commended Gadayab’s group and other units  who participated in the operation that led to the arrest of the two brothers, like the PIB, PIDMBAND PCRB, NISU, PN, PG395  PN, D2 3AD, NAGA police, RPSB9, 44th IB PA, 17 SFC PA, SF BN, PCG and the 9 ISU.

Antonio said the arrest of the two Sabtals are considered as a big accomplishment on the part of the government.

He added that the police along with other government agencies will continue their campaign against lawless groups in their areas of responsibility to ensure the safety of the public.

The two Sabtals were arrested Friday  at Purok Looc, Barangay Kaliantana, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay on the strength of a warrant for kidnapping with serious illegal detention.

Recovered from their hideout were several high powered firearms and prohibited drugs. – Dan Toribio Jr.
