Zamboanga City is all set in its participation in the 12th China ASEAN Expo in Nanning, China from Sept. 18-21 where it will be featured as the Philippines’ City of Charms.

Mayor Beng Climaco and Undersecretary Ponciano Manalo of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Investment Promotions Group will lead the delegation during the series of events that will include the opening tour of the Philippine Pavilion, dinner banquet for very important persons (VIPs), series of forums that will be staged on specific sectors, the 12th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) and business matching activities among others. Members of the City Council, department heads and members of Los Contratistas de Zamboanga, Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and representatives from the local business community are joining the delegation.

CAEXPO is an annual international trade event that serves as a platform for a deepened economic partnership and accelerated economic integration between China and the ASEAN countries.

CAEXPO is dedicated in promoting the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and building economic trade cooperation with ASEAN. Through CAFTA, China opens a large pool of trade and investment opportunity for ASEAN countries with prospects of economic expansion. It is a venue for the Philippines to promote goodwill with the Chinese government as well as increase the country’s trade, tourism and investment promotions.

As the City of Charm, Zamboanga will showcase a wide range of products varying from health promoting juices to fashionable woven cloths. Zamboanga City’s affiliation to the East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) serves as a trading hub and gateway not only to the Philippines but also to other ASEAN member countries such as Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Zamboanga City will likewise feature its profound foundation of Spanish history, culture and rich heritage resources. Chavacano, the Spanish derivative language is uniquely Zamboanga.    Out of the 136 cities in the country and entire Asia, Zamboanga is the only city where majority speak, understand and use chavacano on an everyday basis which is the reason why the city is branded as “Asia’s Latin City”.

The Philippine participation is spearheaded by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) – the export promotions arm of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Philippine Investment Promotion Plan Steering Committee (PIPP-SC) Technical Working Group, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the Philippine Trade and Investment Centers (PTIC) in Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai, the Board of Investments (BOI), and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
