Sunglao leads Zampen delegation in cacao congress held in Davao PDF Print E-mail

“Let’s help our cacao farmers uplift their socio-economic and livelihood and let’s preserve and protect  our land  so that we can produce world class cacao beans for world market.”,

Thus emphasized retired Police Director Angelo H. Sunglao in his message during the deliberation of resolutions  by different regions in the rrecently concluded “Kakao Konek 2015 National Cacao Congress held at SMX Convention, SM Lanang, Davao City on  September 11-12.

The Cacao Congress was the initiative of the Cacao Industry Development Association of Mindanao Inc.( CIDAMI ) under the leadership of  Executive Director Valente Turtur  and Davao Cacao Philippines with the theme “Enhancing Productivity : Key to Sustainable Cacao Industry.”

Sunglao was chosen by the Zamboanga Peninsula Group Cacao Producers with the support of Department of Trade and Industry-9 Regional Director Sitti Amina Jain, , Dept. of Agrarian and Reform- 9 Director Felix Aguhob to lead the cacao industry in the region and the deiberation of the resolutions.

Under one resolution, Region 9 will soon conduct a Cacao Congress intended for the farmers and producers in the region.  This was supported by CIDAMI Exec. Director Valente.

Sunglao expressed optimism that Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco- Salazar will support the project  and also the different local government units in the region to  do their share and support the cacao congress in Zamboanga City. The congress aimed to educate the farmers on the varieties of cacao to plant with new  technics for excellent world class quality beans for the world market.

Simon Bakker Chief Executive Officer of Kennemer Foods International based in Davao City,  disclosed that the world needs more than 5 million tons of dried cacao beans every year.

Dried Cacao beans in Indonesia, Malaysia and Africa are somewhat and lacking in butter oil even though they are produced by tons.

“ What we need is quality beans. We supply cacao beans to Mars USA, Snickers, M & M, Twix chocolates and others,” Bakker revealed. — Allen Abastillas
