Boat engaged in illegal fishing apprehended PDF Print E-mail

Men of the Tungawan Municipal Police Station backed up by the army’s 6th Special Forces Battalion and personnel of the Coastal Resource Management under MENRO-Tungawan led by Ronelito Manuel conducted a seaborne patrol along the coast of Barangay Sto. Niño, Tungawan around 4 p.m. Sunday resulting in the apprehension of a fishing boat.

A police report disclosed that the team intercepted the boat named Limar registered under the name of Marcela Adjan of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay with fourteen crew members.

Police said that the fishermen aboard the boat were caught violating the Republic Act 8550 particularly Sections 89 and 90 or encroachment of commercial fishing vessel using active gear and for violation of municipal ordinance b-30-04 sections 26 and 27.

Police said the fishermen aboard the vessel were illegally using fine mesh net that falls under the said laws.

The boat as well as the crew members were brought to the police detachment in Bagaan Island, Barangay Tibugay, Tungawan for further investigation pending their turnover to the concerned agency. – Dan Toribio Jr.
