Two brothers were arrested for illegally cutting bakawan trees at a mangrove in Sitio Mulu-Muluan, Mercedes last Saturday morning.

Barangay Chair Purificacion Delgado had sought assistance from Police Station 4 based in Culianan after she received report that there were two persons cutting bakawan trees around 9:30 a.m.

Policemen under Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon swooped down on the area and caught Roseller Pelegrin y Salazar and Florentino Pelegrin Jr., y Salazar, both residents of Arena Blanco and Bolong. Confiscated from their possession were a bolo, two bancas, one of which was loaded with more or less 150 cut bakawan trees, 10 assorted sizes of wood piles and an axe.

The two brothers as well as the confiscated items were brought to Police Station 4 in Culianan for further investigation and filing of charges in court.

In another incident, men of the Sinunuc Police Station led by Chief Insp. Hingming Ladjaali arrested a man and a woman in a drug buy-bust operation at Purok 3, Sector 4, IB, Calarian last Saturday night.

Nabbed were April Rose GamaboSabala and Jayson Cabahug.

Confiscated from their possession were eight sachets of shabu, drug paraphernalia and marked money.

The two were detained while the seized items were forwarded to the 9th PNP Crime Laboratory for examination. – Dan Toribio Jr.
