The Polanco local government in Zamboanga del Norte has provided  assistance to farmers  in the area to uplift  their  socio- economic livelihood activities.

Polanco  Mayor  Roberto T. Uy Jr disclosed that under his leadership, the farmers in his municipality have received different varieties of seeds for agricultural livelihood like rice seedlings and other seeds.

According to Uy, the livelihood program is under the term of “get the seeds assistance now and pay later”.

Uy explained that when the farmers get the livelihood assistance for farming, they have to plant first the seeds and Once they are harvesting the  fruits of their  labor, it is the time they are going to pay the livelihood assistance with a very minimal amount that they can afford.

“We want our farmers to be improved and have a good life for their children,” Uy  said.

The mayor is also promoting and providing assistance to farmers who wants to plant  high grade Cacao seedlings.

“Short man gud ron ang cacao beans sa world market og nakabalo ko nga lami ang cacao dire sa ato-a sa Pilipinas kay daghang cacao butter oil,” Uy said.

Polanco has been awarded by the Department of Interior and Local Government in 2011 with a Seal of Excellence in the performance of accountability and transparency. — Allen Abastillas
