Senator Antonio Trillanes IV announced during his visit to Zamboanga City on Friday that he is running for vice president.

Trillanes made th announcement during a short news conference held at Grand Astoria Hotel’s Lotus Restaurant.

The senator said he is running as independent candidate. But, he added, he still he still with the Nacionalista Party.

In an interview, Trillanes told DZT that with his good record in the Senate,  he is confident of winning in the election.

He said the Filipino people have already seen his performance as a lawmaker and as a  fighter  against corruption.

Trillanes added that he will continue his advocacyon peace and order, anti-corruption and anti-poverty for the good of the country.

Meanwhile, Trillanes disclosed that there is no more sufficient time for the lawmakers to tackle the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.

He said that as the filing of certificates of candidacy is fast approaching and lawmakers are busy discussing other issues in the Senate, it is impossible to fastrack the approval of the BBL.

He added that there are provisions in the BBL that are not acceptable to the general public and should be reviewed after proper consultations.

Being against in the BBL, Trillanes on the other hand said that he is in favor of holding peace talks with other armed groups to obtain true peace in Mindanao.

Trillanes maintains his standing as the top performing legislator in the Senate based on the number of bills and  resolutions he filed and sponsored. — Dan Toribio  Jr.
